The Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Herrick, Executive Director

The Titus Institute is under the direction of Tom Herrick, an ordained priest in the Anglican Church in North America, whose ministry has been focused on church planting the past 20 years. Tom has planted churches in Houston, TX and Centreville, VA, and served in various capacities of leadership: 9 years serving on the Church Planting Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia (serving as Chairman 6 of those years), 4 years as National Director for Church Planting with the Anglican Communion Network, and the past 7+ years as Executive Director of the Titus Institute for Church Planting. Tom serves as adjunct professor for church planting and teaches Masters and Doctoral courses at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Church Planting, and at Nashotah House Theological Seminary. Tom also works in strategic partnership with other church planting ministries: 1) Consultant, Coach, and Trainer for the Anglican Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic and member of their Great Commission Committee; 2) Member of the Anglican 1000 team serving as a Coach Trainer; 3) Member of the Fresh Expressions US Strategy Team serving as a Trainer and Coach for Mission Shaped Ministry learning communities; and, 4) Member of the Advisory Councils for Evangelize Today and Christian Stewardship Ministries.

William Burke, President

Bill brings a variety of experience gathered over a 40+ year business career to his volunteer position with Titus. His background includes service as a Senior Tax Specialist with Price Waterhouse & Co; as a ventures manager with a large private telecommunications and cable TV operator; as a senior manager with a major real estate development & home building company; as managing principal in a management consulting firm focused on start-up and turnaround organizations; and presently as Managing Member of both Virginia Realty Partners, LLC (a land, commercial, & residential real estate brokerage and development firm) and The Burke Companies, LLC (a management and real estate consulting firm specializing in churches). Throughout his career, he has also served in the leadership of church congregational councils, and local, national and international not-for-profit organizations. He is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he completed undergraduate and post-graduate studies. Bill resides with his wife, Peggy in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C.

Ed Speare, Secretary

speareEd joined the Board of Titus in September of 2013 and brings more than 40 years experience in leadership, management and organizational effectiveness garnered while serving as a career military officer, a member and officer of other non-profit boards, and extensive volunteer service in his church and local community. Ed earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Philosophy at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana and a Masters of Public Administration at Western Kentucky University. He has participated in and led several short-term missions to African countries, providing training for local clergy and their spouses. Ed is married and resides in Northern Virginia with his spouse Suzy.

Bruce Mancinelli

bruceBruce has more than 40 years of experience in managing high technology companies. With a background that includes senior executive positions in sales and marketing, Bruce has a range of skills that can adapt from small start-up companies to medium-sized organizations. Known as a team builder, he has an exceptional way with people and strength in his abilities to communicate, direct, and manage others. Most recently, Bruce has served as Executive Director of the INC.spire Education Foundation, which includes an incubator program where more than 100 start-ups have called INC.spire their home and received their mentoring. INC.spire has enjoyed a graduation rate of over 95% since 2001. As President/CEO and Co-founder of seven high technology companies, Bruce has successfully started, developed and taken to equity events those companies during his career as a business executive and now supports entrepreneurs with start-ups and emerging businesses. In addition, he is the author of two books on start-ups and entrepreneurship: Websurveyor – Web Survivor and 50 Ways to Love Your Start-up. Bruce has been married to Ruthan for 39 years and they have three daughters: Lisa, Adrienne and Anna Marie. He shares time between Reston, VA and Holden Beach, NC, but is never far from the next “big idea” and start-up.

Malcolm B. Young, Ph.D

mal-youngMal brings nearly 40 years of church leadership coupled with a successful career as a management consultant to local, state, national and international organizations. He is an expert in program planning and evaluation and has directed over 60 evaluations for USAID and the State Department, national evaluations for the U.S. Department of Education, and long-term contracts for the U.S. Bureau of the Census and Department of Labor. These include national surveys of democratic values in Guatemala and Haiti, local government reform and education projects in Egypt, a national evaluation of the American Indian Education Act, and national evaluations of adult literacy and English language learning programs for the U.S. Department of Education. He is the vice chair of the Great Commission Committee of the Anglican diocese of the Mid-Atlantic, member of the Timothy’s Planning Committee of the Falls Church Anglican Church, past chair and current member of the Board of Directors of L’Arche of Greater Washington D.C., and a member of the national board of directors of L’Arche USA. He has also served as a ruling elder of four Presbyterian USA congregations in Northern Virginia, chair of the planning and evaluation committee of the National Capitol Presbytery and ESL tutor and tutor trainer for the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia. He is married to Ann Young, a registered nurse and community activist, and they have four children and four grandchildren.

Patrick Cunningham, Treasurer

patrickPatrick has more than 20 years of business experience in the construction, insurance, and real estate industries. He is one of the leaders of a successful lay-planted Anglican church, Church of the Resurrection, which began in Baltimore, Maryland five years ago, and where he currently serves as Director of Pastoral Care and Leadership Development. He guided many phases of Resurrection’s growth while fulfilling the various roles of Servant Council Member, Treasurer, Director of Operations, Vestryman, and Senior Warden. Patrick brings a wealth of practical knowledge and effective practices for church planting to the Titus Institute. A graduate of Loyola College, he resides in the suburbs of Baltimore with his wife, Michele, their daughter Caitlin, and son, Liam.

The Rev. Canon David Wilson

13876559_10154276390788726_7701703744280935485_n David is the senior pastor of Christ the Redeemer Anglican Parish of the South Hills, and brings a broad-base of experience to our directors’ table. In his “former life,” as he says, David worked as a construction worker, a carpenter, a steelworker, an International Trade Specialist for the US Department of Commerce, an Executive Director of an evangelism ministry and as the Director of Finance and Administration of a missionary sending agency. There is no denying that David’s leading spiritual gift is evangelism, and he has a deep, deep heart for reaching the lost through planting churches and engaging in both domestic and international missions. (If you question that spiritual gift-thing, just have a couple meals with him at a restaurant. He has an incredibly non-threatening manner as he talks to servers about Jesus!) David enjoys spending time with his wife, Gale, their two children, Greg (married to Amanda), Hannah, and their two grandsons.
